Pick-up trucks are increasingly being used as lifestyle vehicles, rather than all-out workhorses. In fact, it probably wouldn’t be too surprising if there are more road-going pick-up trucks, than those that go off-road at all. So obviously there’s a market for a premium-class pick-up truck, and Ford has capitalised on the opportunity by introducing a new range-topping variant of its Ranger pick-up truck here in Malaysia, dubbed the Ranger Platinum.
Positioned right underneath the performance-focused Raptor, the new Ford Ranger Platinum is priced at RM183,888 on-the-road, without insurance, making it some RM15k more expensive than the WildTrak – so what do you get for the extra dough?
For starters, there’s now a fancier-looking face, courtesy of the chrome-pin-like grille placed in between the C-clamp matrix LED headlamps. Not just that, the Ranger Platinum also comes equipped with a set of 20-inch alloys – on a pick-up truck! Told you it’s “premium”.
The rear cargo area of the Ranger Platinum has also been significantly upgraded. A powered roller shutter roller is now included as standard, and the tailgate has also gained a gas damper to complete the luxury makeover. But the highlight is definitely the new Flexible Rack System, which turns the sports bar into a sliding rack, to give customers more flexibility in carrying longer items.

Alongside the new Ranger Platinum, Sime Darby Auto Connexion also unveiled the new Ford Everest WildTrak. Building on the existing Titanium variant, the new range-topping Everest boasts several new aesthetic additions, such as a new variant-specific grille, new dual-tone 20-inch alloys, as well as the signature Luxe Yellow colour option to give the SUV a more youthful edge.
