Toyota FT-Se concept to debut at Japan Mobility Show 2023 – EV Supra, GR86, or MR2?

There are many things for you to be excited about for the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2023. One of the cars that you could look forward to seeing is the Toyota FT-Se oncept which will preview the future of sports cars from Toyota.

Toyota has released teaser images of FT-Se concept on its website and if the orange car looks quite familiar, that is because Toyota had earlier shown the Toyota Sports EV concept back in December 2021. However, a closer look at the new teaser images reveals that they aren’t exactly the same car – the Toyota Sports EV featured a black trim behind the front wheel while the FT-Se doesn’t seem to sport it.

Based on the latest information released by Toyota, the Toyota FT-Se is a high-performance sports battery electric vehicle (BEV). It will be “one of the options for sports cars in the carbon-neutral era, incorporating the expertise gained in Toyota Gazoo Racing’s efforts to make ever-better cars through motorsports”.

In the teaser images, Toyota has also unveiled a bit of the cockpit design of the FT-Se which seems to preview its “next-generation cockpit”. Toyota says that this new cockpit design offers intuitive control and a more immersive driving experience.

The Toyota Sports EV concept was unveiled back in December 2021. It isn’t a carbon copy of the FT-Se

From the images at least, we can see that it has low-positioned instrument panels with screens on the dashboard sandwiching the steering wheel. The FT-Se also sports a uniquely shaped steering wheel that implies a steer-by-wire system. Besides that. Toyota also mentioned that the FT-Se will feature newly-designed kneepads to “protect the body from G-forces during driving”. We’re already starting to like the FT-Se based on that information alone.

Together with the FT-Se, Toyota will also be unveiling the Toyota FT-3e concept, the Kayoibako concept, the Land Cruise Se, the EPU pickup truck, the Land Hopper, the JUU, and the Space Mobility Prototype. Will the FT-Se preview the next-generation Supra, 86, or even MR2? We will soon find out.
