Toyota Yaris Cross launched in Thailand – From approx. RM101k, hybrid only, 3 variants

Previously launched in Indonesia in June, the Toyota Yaris Cross has now arrived at Thailand’s shores. Offered with a hybrid powertrain only, the B-segment SUV is available in three variants – the Toyota Yaris Cross HEV Smart, the Yaris Cross HEV Premium, as well as the Yaris Cross HEV Premium Luxury. Prices for the Thai-spec hybrid SUV start from THB789,000 (approx. RM100,504) and top out at THB899,000 (approx. RM114,494).

On the outside, the Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand is equipped with standard features such as automatic LED headlights with auto high beam, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), LED fog lights, and LED taillights. There are a total of six colours available for the hybrid SUV. Depending on the variants chosen, customers can even opt for certain colour options that come with a black roof at an extra cost.

Both the entry-level Smart and the Premium variants of the Toyota Yaris Cross are fitted with 17-inch wheels, with the Premium variant getting them in a dual-tone colour scheme. The top-spec Premium Luxury variant gets larger 18-inch dual-tone wheels instead.

Also exclusive to the Premium Luxury variant are the welcome lamps fitted into the hybrid SUV’s side mirrors. Customers craving for an even sportier design can opt for the optional Urban Sport and Modellista exterior kits.

Like its Indonesian counterpart, the Thai-spec Toyota Yaris Cross measures 4,310 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,615 mm tall, and is underpinned by a 2,620 mm long wheelbase. This makes the B-segment SUV just a tad smaller than the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V, and larger than the A-segment Toyota Raize/Perodua Ativa.

Powering the Toyota Yaris Cross in Thailand is a hybrid system that consists of a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder Dual VVT-i engine, paired with an electric motor, a 4.3 Ah battery, as well as an e-CVT gearbox. Power is sent to the front wheels only, resulting in a system output of 111 hp (metric).

Inside, the Thai-spec Toyota Yaris Cross is fitted with black artificial leather upholstery, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, along with an electronic parking brake (EPB) with automatic regenerative system as standard. Other features such as an automatic air conditioning system, rear aircon vents, a 6-speaker audio system, and a 14-colour ambient lighting system are also included.

The mid-spec Premium variant gets an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, while the Premium Luxury variant gets you even more equipment. Among the features added to the top-spec model include a black or black and grey combination colour interior, depending on the exterior colour chosen, a wireless mobile phone charger, and a panoramic roof with an electronic curtain. The Premium Luxury variant also gets a Pioneer-branded 6-speaker audio system, as well as a powered tailgate with a kick sensor.

Safety-wise, the Thai-spec Toyota Yaris Cross HEV Smart is equipped with 6 airbags, vehicle stability control (VSC), traction control (TRC), and a reverse camera, along with front and rear sensors. Moving up to the Premium variant gets you active safety features such as the Toyota Safety Sense suite which consists of front departure alert (FDA), and pedal misoperation control (PMC). A blind spot monitor (BSM) and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) are also included. The top-spec Premium Luxury variant gets even more safety features such as a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a 360-degree camera system.

It has been a while since the Toyota Yaris Cross is rumoured to be the donor car to Perodua’s upcoming B-segment SUV (Codenamed the D66B, reportedly the Perodua Nexis). When the new SUV is materialised, it will sit right above the A-segment Perodua Ativa and will rival the likes of the Proton X50, Honda HR-V, and the Chery Omoda 5.

Just recently, local research firm, Kenanga Research has also reported that the Perodua D66B/Nexis SUV will be making its debut as soon as early next year. Excited about the new Perodua SUV? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
