Geely’s Lynk & Co to launch in Vietnam in Oct 2023, marks ASEAN debut with 4 models planned

Geely’s “premium” sub-brand, Lynk & Co, will be officially launched in Vietnam this October 2023, marking the marque’s first entry into the ASEAN region.

The brand will be distributed by GreenLynk Automotives, with four models planned for introduction in the country, including the Lynk & Co 01, Lynk & Co 03, Lynk & Co 05, and Lynk & Co 09, all imported directly from China as the company hopes to “create an ‘earthquake’ in the Vietnamese car market”.

Among the line-up of vehicles announced for launch in Vietnam, the Lynk & Co 09 is the latest of the lot, first introduced back in 2021. It’s built on the SPA platform that also underpins the Volvo XC90, and as such shares the same powertrain options as the latter, making it essentially the XC90’s Chinese twin.

The other three models are all built on Geely’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, which is also shared with the Volvo XC40. The 01 takes the form of a compact crossover; the 05 its coupe-SUV counterpart, and the 03 being the only sedan model of the line-up.

All three CMA-based models offer petrol, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain options, although it’s unclear which of these varieties will make their way into Vietnam and the wider ASEAN region.

Aside from Vietnam, Lynk & Co has also previously announced that it will also be making an entrance into Malaysia and Australia, as part of the company’s Smart Geely 2025 plan. The entry into Malaysia and Australia holds particular significance to the brand, as it could also mark the first right-hand drive market for Lynk & Co.
