Next-gen MINI Cooper Electric specs revealed – up to 400km range, 214hp

BMW has unveiled some specifications of the next-generation MINI Cooper Electric. Having its spy shots surfaced on the internet in late 2022 and earlier this year, the new all-electric three-door hatchback features a new grille and a new rear-end design with simpler bodylines.

Geared towards electric driving fun, which is how the company is describing the new car, the next-generation MINI Cooper Electric will be coming in two variants. The variants are namely the MINI Cooper E and the MINI Cooper SE. Until now, BMW has yet to unveil a five-door variant.

Power-wise, the Cooper E is capable of producing 181 hp. The Cooper SE on the other hand is capable of producing slightly more, which is around 214 hp. Installed on the floor of the MINI Cooper Electric is a lithium-ion battery. This is done for optimum road holding and weight distribution, while also increasing the vehicle’s stability and agility, according to BMW.

The Cooper E has a battery capacity of 40.7 kWh, while the Cooper SE has a battery capacity of 54.2 kWh. Both are capable of carrying you as far as an estimated 400 km (WLTP). Although the battery has been upsized for the SE, so has the power output. This is much better than the current generation MINI Cooper Electric which only has around 232 km of WLTP range.

Together with the MINI Countryman, the next generation MINI Cooper Electric will be produced at the BMW Group Plant in Leipzig from November 2023. The company has also teased that the MINI Aceman will be joining and completing the new MINI family from 2024 onwards.

The company also revealed the MINI Electric Resolute Edition at Malaysia Auto Show 2023 (held from May 4 to 7, 2023 at MAEPS Serdang). Limited to 90 units only, added goodies include new body colours, new colour trims for the headlamps, front grille and tail lights, as well as new seat pattern designs.
