What is the first thing that pops into your mind when the term ‘go-kart handling’ is broached? If your answer is MINI, you are on the right path – but that is only half a point to you because there is a subset of that pedigree that is far more superior at dynamic handling and performance. Meet the newest members of the MINI JCW Family.
The acronym JCW (for John Cooper Works) on the rear hatch of any MINI is not only a nod to its past that is steeped in racing heritage, but more importantly, a promise to throttle the enthusiasm of drivers to the limit with performance, handling and technology wrapped in a distinctive package.
That pledge started with legendary Formula 1 designer John Cooper. Always having a keen eye for potential, he weaved his engineering erudition over the MINI and transformed it into a world beater, winning the likes of the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally and Dakar Rally.
Since then, MINI has strived to push the envelope of performance to electrifying new heights, pun intended. As a disruptor during his time, the electrification of the industry is something John Cooper would have wholeheartedly embraced, including the first all-electric JCW models that deliver the thrilling handling and performance to be expected from the emblem.
MINI Malaysia is proud to introduce that duo here, comprising The All-Electric MINI JCW and The All-Electric MINI JCW Aceman, alongside the mainstays made up of The MINI JCW, and The MINI JCW Countryman with MINI JCW TwinPower Turbo under the hood.
The All-Electric MINI JCW and The All-Electric MINI Aceman JCW
A new powertrain but the same thrilling go-kart handling and performance – that sums up The All-Electric MINI JCW and The All-Electric MINI Aceman JCW. MINI engineers were able to retain the point-and-shoot feeling and driving dynamics by positioning the 49.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack in a T-shape along the length of the vehicle floor to distribute weight perfectly and improve stability.
Both variants get the same battery pack and electric motor propelling the front wheels with 258 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The All-Electric MINI JCW rockets through the century sprint in a scant 5.9 seconds and onto a top speed of 200 km/h, while The All-Electric MINI Aceman JCW and its two additional doors match all the important figures save for the century sprint, trailing at 6.4 seconds.

The move to electric power also opened new performance possibilities to further electrify the experience. A first for the JCW range is e-Power Boost. Pull the paddle with the Chilli Red label on the JCW Sport Steering, and the motor kicks into high gear, boosting performance by a burst of additional power.
To get off the line as quick as possible, E-Launch Control brings some extra charge to the traditional launch control system. Once The All-Electric MINI JCW and The All-Electric MINI Aceman JCW is sufficiently warmed up, you activate it to enable smoother, faster acceleration by minimising wheel spin and managing torque for the ultimate launch.
It dishes out all that performance while the driver is cossetted in a zany cabin that could only be had with a MINI. To complement the performance, the interior gets JCW Sports Seats and the requisite splashes of its signature Chilli Red to drive home the performance aspect.
The two electric models still manage to stand out amidst the MINI JCW Family. One of their distinctive features would be the two-tone contrast roof. Starting with Chilli Red at the front, the tone effortlessly transitions towards Jet Black at the rear with the Spray Tech roof-gradient design lending it the impression of looking in motion even while sitting still.
The MINI JCW and The MINI JCW Countryman
As the original MINI to sport the JCW emblem, The MINI JCW is back and bolder with a promise of more of everything. Completing the petrol-powered alternatives packing MINI JCW TwinPower Turbo is The MINI JCW Countryman, the most powerful MINI ever.
Under the hood of The MINI JCW is a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine, sending 231 hp and 380 Nm of torque to the front wheels via a seven-speed Sport Dual-Clutch Automatic transmission. That gives it a zippy century sprint time of 6.1 seconds.
In the case of The MINI JCW Countryman, bigger is very much indeed better. The four-door MINI makes a staggering 317 hp and 400 Nm of torque, also from a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo mill. In this case, MINI’s grippy ALL4 all-wheel drive system kicks into action to manage all that power. Coupled with the same seven-speed Sport Dual-Clutch Automatic, it fires from 0-100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds.
Further enhancing the go-kart feeling behind the wheel of this duo is adaptive suspension on each corner that constantly adjusts the MINI’s agility on the road or track. On the inside, JCW Sports Seats holds the driver firmly in place while he rifles through the gears with paddle shifters on the JCW Sports Steering.

As the most powerful MINI ever, The MINI JCW Countryman rightly gets a few extra toys to set it apart. These comprise cornering LED headlights, a MINI Mirror Package for better all-round visibility and roof rails.
In place of the two-tone roof for the electric JCW MINIs, the petrol versions get a full Chilli Red top. The grille in High Gloss Black, showcases its combustion engine with the resplendent JCW checkered flag logo integrated into the mesh.
The view that most people would see, the rear end, features a rear bumper with a diffuser styled in JCW colours that enhances aerodynamic efficiency. Placing function firmly ahead of form, much of the exterior is penned to make use of the air flowing around. The MINI JCW rear wing exerts downward pressure to keep your JCW planted.
