Spied: Next-gen MINI Cooper electric seen undisguised

Photos of an undisguised next-generation MINI Cooper have surfaced on the internet, allegedly spotted during a shoot in the USA. Based on the lack of exhaust tailpipes, it seems the spotted model is the all-electric version of the car.

First spied in late 2021 in China, the new MINI Cooper was seen sporting a new grille that seems to be inspired by wrestler Hulk Hogan’s mustache. Now seen in blue, the mustache inspiration seems a little less obvious. The new MINI Cooper also shows a radical new rear-end design, with angular taillights that look like the eye holes from Peter Parker’s superhero costume.

The next-gen MINI Cooper now looks much cleaner thanks to the removal of the all-around claddings and simple body lines. Still looking adorable as a MINI should, credit is due to the original ‘new MINI’ which was designed by Frank Stephenson. The next-gen MINI Cooper that you see here is essentially an evolution from that revamped design.

In its upcoming iteration, the all-electric MINI Cooper will be built in China, hence explaining why its first spy images emerged from there. Reportedly, it will be built on a platform that has been jointly developed between BMW and Great Wall.

AutoExpress reports that the next-generation MINI Cooper will still be available in internal combustion engine (ICE) versions, and production will continue at BMW’s Oxford plant. Both ICE and electric versions will share a similar design theme.

Currently, BMW has teased the upcoming all-electric MINI Countryman that is set to join MINI’s electric lineup. The upcoming MINI Countryman will be the first “Made in Germany” MINI and is set to arrive this year.

In Malaysia, the MINI electric has been updated for the year 2023. The recent update has equipped the car with a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and a new Nanuq White body colour.
