Proton has previewed the X50 R3 20th Anniversary Edition at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 with cosmetic upgrades from the standard car. Unmistakably, the X50 R3 Concept features the signature colour accents of R3 vehicles from the past, such as the R3 Iriz and R3 Saga.
Proton has announced that a production version of the X50 R3 will become a reality. Only 200 units will be available and bookings can only be made at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023.
The Proton X50 R3 20th Anniversary Edition is dressed with an R3 Aerokit where at the front, the X50 R3 Concept is given a large front splitter with yellow accents. The same yellow/black treatment is given to the front hood, along with a grey stripe, that joins the yellow accent on the front grille. The front grille is fitted with a R3 badge.
On the side, yellow accents can be seen on the side mirror, side skirts, and 18-inch flow form lightweight wheels. The wheels also come with Race, Rally Research lettering. At the rear, the X50 R3 Concept is fitted with an aftermarket spoiler with yellow accents on the rear diffuser.
The exterior of the ProtonX50 R3 20th Anniversary Edition is finished with a matte black wrap. On the inside, R3 treatment includes a R3 embroidery on the headrests, R3 mats, and what seems like aluminium R3 sports pedals.
In terms of output and performance, there are no changes to it. The X50 R3 Concept is based on the 1.5 TGDI Flagship variant and is powered by a 1.5 litre TGDI turbocharged engine with 177 hp and 255 Nm, paired to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox to drive the front wheels.
