Due to its familial look, the CX-8 can be quite tough to differentiate from its SUV siblings. Given a facelift in 2022, the Mazda CX-8 now sports a new grille up front. Replacing the horizontal-slate grille design is a weave-like design. The Mazda CX-8 2.5 High Plus gets Mazda’s Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS) and auto High Beam Control (HBC).
The Mazda CX-8 2.5 High Plus sits on a set of 19-inch wheels with a Grey Metallic finish. It is also equipped with roof rails for added practicality. At the back, the CX-8 gets LED rear combination taillights with Mazda’s Signature Illumination. Overall, the Mazda CX-8 measures 4,900 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,730 mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2,930 mm long.

Powering the CX-8 2.5 High Plus is a new-to-the-model 2.5-litre turbocharged engine that makes 228 hp and 420 Nm. Paired with the engine is a 6-speed automatic transmission. The CX-8 2.5L Turbo High Plus is the only variant of the CX-8 to get an all-wheel drive system. It is also the only variant to get a 74-litre fuel tank instead of a 72-litre tank.
As for other specifications, the CX-8 2.5 High Plus gets a MacPherson strut suspension setup at the front and a multi-link suspension set up at the rear. It gets disc brakes all-around with the front set being ventilated discs and the rear set being solid discs. From the factory, the CX-8 2.5 High Plus is fitted with a set of 225/55R19 Toyo Proxes R46 tyres.

Inside, the CX-8 2.5 High Plus AWD provides a 6-seater configuration. It is perfect for chauffering your old folks around as the second-row seats don’t feel too discounted compared to the first-row seats. Second-row passengers get a proper armrest with a proper storage box, seat heating function, climate control, and window blinds. The seats can be pushed forward to allow access to the third-row seats.
As for safety, the 2022 Mazda CX-8 in Malaysia comes as standard with six airbags and stability control and traction control systems, and your standard suite of ABS with EBD and BA. The 2.5 High variant adds on autonomous emergency braking (front), blind-spot monitoring system, and rear-cross traffic alert. The High Plus variants meanwhile get the full suite of Mazda’s i-Activsense advanced driver assist features, which has been updated for 2022 with the addition of the adaptive radar cruise control system with stop-and-go function, lane keeping assist, and a new rearward autonomous emergency braking system.
