Video: 2023 Mazda CX-30 CKD, from RM128k – 5 Things

Bermaz Motor, the official distributor of Mazda cars in Malaysia now has a new locally assembled (CKD) model in its line-up – the 2023 Mazda CX-30. There are only four variants of the CX-30 now as the diesel and AWD options have been dropped. Prices of the car now start at RM128,109 (OTR without insurance).

The four variants of the CKD Mazda CX-30 are the ‘Standard’, ‘High’, ‘High+’, and ‘High+ Premium’, priced at RM128,109, RM136,109, RM146,109, and RM156,109 respectively. Premium body colours will cost an additional RM2,000.

On the outside, nothing has changed for the CX-30 from its 2022 update. The only notable difference here is the addition of Mazda’s Adaptive LED Headlight (ALH) to the range-topping ‘High+ Premium’ variant. The ‘High’ and ‘High+’ get Mazda’s Adaptive Frontlight System (AFS).

The difference between ALH and AFS is that ALH employs an array of LEDs that intelligently dim certain ‘matrix dots’ to not blind other drivers. AFS essentially moves the light beam in response to your steering angle. Wheels are 16 inches in size for the Standard variant and 18 inches in size for the other three variants.

With the AWD and diesel variants dropped, there is now only one powertrain option for the CKD Mazda CX-30. It is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine that makes 162 hp and 213 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels only via a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.

Inside, the electric sunroof is now only available for the ‘High+ Premium’ variant. Previously, this was available even in the ‘High’ variants of the fully imported (CBU) versions. Luxuries such as dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, a power-adjustable driver seat, and a powered tailgate are only available in the ‘High’, ‘High+’, and ‘High+ Premium’ variants.

As for safety, the range-topping ‘High+ Premium’ variant gets the full suite of Mazda’s i-ActiveSense. This includes Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA, Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Assist (DAA) & Driver Monitoring, Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with Stop & Go function, and Cruising & Traffic Support.

Now, locally assembled, prices of the CKD Mazda CX-30 have dropped quite significantly. The CX-30 joins the CX-5 and CX-8 as Mazda models that are assembled in Kulim, Kedah.
