Photos of the Hyundai Sonata facelift have surfaced on Korean car portals, apparently taken while filming was taking place. Joining the Staria, Stargazer, Grandeur, and all-new Kona, the facelifted Sonata now sports the same continuous LED front end.
The facelift is based on the current-generation Hyundai Sonata which was launched in Malaysia in October 2020. The Korean D-segment saloon is now no longer available on the Hyundai Malaysia website. When the current generation was launched, it fetched a price of RM206,888.

Sales of the current-generation Hyundai Sonata have been sluggish, unlike its predecessors. Its radical design is perhaps a little too much for most of its customer base to stomach. Hyundai even tried to spice things up on the current-generation Sonata with an “N Line Night Edition” back in October 2021. In May 2022, it was reported that Hyundai might soon cease production of the Hyundai Sonata to make way for more electrified models.
The latest facelift of the Hyundai Sonata could be the brand’s last hurrah at saving the Hyundai Sonata. The blurry spotted photos of the facelifted Hyundai Sonata show it in red body colour and what seems to be the ‘N Line’ trim of the D-segment saloon.

In Hyundai’s model lineup, one model that would be the closest indicator of the facelifted Sonata’s styling would be the Hyundai Grandeur. It is the only low-riding Hyundai that has been given the ‘continuous LED’ treatment so far. The continuous LED design provides a simpler yet more futuristic look compared to the radical styling of the current Sonata.
With only the blurry images available as reference, photoshop artists have been quick to produce renderings of the facelifted Hyundai Sonata. While the front end has been given a huge revamp, the rear end still looks largely the same.

To recap, the Hyundai Sonata that was launched in Malaysia is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that makes 180 hp at 6,000 rpm and 232 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Paired with the engine is a 6-speed automatic transmission.
