Toyota still the best-selling non-national brand in Malaysia – 79,308 units sold YTD

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has published its sales report for October 2022, where it recorded a total of 9,281 units sold, consisting of 9,175 units of Toyota and 106 of Lexus. The figure represents a small 0.5% growth over September, but a significant 9% jump over the same month last year.

With the October data accounted for, the year-to-date sales figure for the company now stands at 80,153 units, of which 79,308 units are for Toyota. The figure translates to a 47% year-on-year increase over 2021 (54,618 units, Toyota + Lexus), and helped Toyota maintain its lead as the best-selling non-national brand in the nation.

Toyota says this is a continuation of the positive upward trend it saw starting at the beginning of the year, and the brand has consistently been a market leader throughout the year, especially in the pick-up truck segment.

“While economic conditions remain challenging, the car market has also been steadily recovering its strength in the course of the year,” said UMWT President, Ravindran K. “Our production is still partly affected but rest assured that we are doing our best to deliver new vehicles as quickly as possible.”

The October sales figures were bolstered by the all-new Toyota Veloz, which was launched in here in Malaysia three weeks ago. While specific delivery figure for the model was not shared, UMWT says that the response to the Veloz has been “extremely positive”, with over 7,000 orders received before the model was launched.

For the year-end festive season, the company is offering promotions for selected models in its line-up, with additional savings of up to RM4,000, bringing monthly instalments for the Toyota Yaris and Vios down to as low as RM498 and RM598 respectively.
