2023 Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Ultimate replaces T8 Inscription in Malaysia – what’s new?

Almost a year after its launch in Malaysia, the Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Inscription is stepping down to make way for the Volvo V60 Recharge T8 Ultimate which fetches a price of RM 321,888. With some additional features, the V60 Ultimate is RM8k more expensive than the V60 Inscription. Like the T8 Inscription, the T8 Ultimate is the sole variant for the V60 in Malaysia

Main additions/changes of the V60 Recharge T8 Ultimate over the T8 Inscription include:

  • New 19-inch 5 triple-spoke black diamond-cut alloy wheels
  • New “Bright Dusk” exterior colour that replaces “Bright Silver”
  • New optional Maroon Brown Moritz upholstery in addition to standard Charcoal Moritz upholstery
  • Android Automotive 9-inch touchscreen unit (replaces Sensus Connect 9-inch unit)
  • Price-inclusive Digital Service Package (DSP)

On the outside, the most obvious difference is the new set of 19-inch 5 triple spoke black diamond-cut alloy wheels that replaces the Inscription’s 5-Multi spoke wheels. The number of colour choices remains at 4, but a new “Bright Dusk” colour replaces the “Bright Silver Colour”. All else, the Inscription’s chrome trims have been carried over to the V60 T8 Recharge Ultimate.

A new option for the interior is an optional “Maroon Brown Moritz” upholstery on top of the standard “Charcoal Moritz” upholstery. The optional upholstery is available with all four colour options of the V60 Recharge T8 Ultimate. As for interior ambience, the Ultimate also gets a large panoramic sunroof like the Inscription.

Like other new Volvo cars, the V60 recharge T8 Ultimate gets the Android Automotive head unit, replacing the old Sensus Connect head unit. The screen size remains the same at 9 inches and with a portrait orientation.

Bumping the V60 Recharge T8 Ultimate’s price over the Inscription is Volvo’s Digital Service Package (DSP) which has been included in the price of the car. The DSP includes access to the following digital services for a period of 4 years:

  • Google Assistant
  • Google Maps
  • Google Play Store
  • Volvo Car App remote functions
  • Data for the said services.

After that period a subscription fee will be required to continue the service.

The powertrain remains the same, as the V60 T8 Ultimate houses a hybrid Plug-in Hybrid system with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine. The system makes a maximum combined output of 462 hp and 709 Nm thanks to the Recharge T8 PHEV update in April that boosted both power and the PHEV battery capacity.

On its own, the 2.0-litre engine powers the front wheels and makes 317 hp @6,000 rpm and 400 Nm @ 3,000-5,400 rpm. Powering the rear wheels is an electric motor that makes 145 hp @ 15,900 rpm and 309 Nm. With an 8-speed automatic gearbox by AISIN, the V60 recharge T8 Ultimate accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

If you’re deciding between the wagon V60 and the sedan S60, do note that the Volvo S60 in Malaysia is offered with the R-Design package while the V60 is not. Although both cars share the same powertrain, the R-Design package adds paddle shifters, different upholstery, a sportier gear lever, sportier bumpers, and an R-Design grille. The wagon V60 Recharge T8 Ultimate offers a more Comfort-like package.
