There are now more choices for a large people carrier in Malaysia thanks to the launch of the new 10-seater Hyundai Staria. Previously only available as the Staria Premium, you now have the option to buy the much cheaper 10-seater Hyundai Staria that comes in three variants – “Lite”, “Plus”, and “Max”.
Powering the 10-seater Hyundai Staria is a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine that makes 177 hp and 431 Nm. The engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all power is sent to the front wheels.
Larger than the Kia Carnival in terms of length, width, and height, the 10-seater Staria has a futuristic look that is hard to miss. Standard on the exterior of the 10-seater Staria are LED headlamps and DRLs. The parametric pixel LED taillights are available on the “Plus” and “Max” variants only. Wheels are 17 inches for the “Lite” and “Plus” variants but 18 inches for the “Max” variant.
In some countries, the 10-seater Staria is known as the 11-seater Staria due to the middle seat on the first row. It is not considered an official seat in Malaysia, and hence the 10-seater Staria has a 2-3-2-3 seat configuration. To get a sunroof, you’d have to get the seven-seater Staria Premium as all versions of the 10-seater Staria do not get it. Standard in the 10-seater Staria is an eight-inch infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

As for safety, the “Max” variant gets the full suite of Hyundai’s SmartSense safety package. This includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA).
Prices of the 10-seater Hyundai Staria start at RM 179,888 for the base “Lite” variant. The “Max” and “Plus” variants are priced at RM 196,888 and RM 209,888 respectively. The standard warranty for the 10-seater Hyundai Staria is for two years/50,000 km. An additional payment of RM 10,000 gives you a five-year/300,000 km warranty and a three-year/50,000 km free scheduled maintenance package.
