We went on a drive recently to Mangala Resort in Gambang, Pahang with the new 2022 facelift Toyota Camry and were pleasantly surprised at what we discovered inside the new car.
The rear seats have been fitted with an armrest with controls for the rear air-con but that’s not all. The facelift Camry even comes with reclinable rear seats! That pretty much puts the Toyota Camry, somewhat in the same league as the more expensive Lexus ES!
But it won’t cost you Lexus money. While the ES 250 Luxury we reviewed is priced at RM327k, the 2022 Camry is more than RM100k cheaper, at RM199,109. That’s not all, it also comes with a new 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engine along with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The new pairing now offers 25 hp and 18 Nm more than before, with 209 hp and 253 Nm to drive the front wheels.
The new engine and transmission are complemented with a more subtle exterior, compared to the pre-facelift model, from the redesigned front bumper.
Couple that with the new cabin creature comforts and the TNGA platform the car is built on, the new 2022 Camry is not only still very much a Camry – in that it’s spacious and comfortable – but also feels youthful. That’s not something you can say about the previous generations!
