Video: Can the 2022 11-seater Kia Carnival MPV finally dethrone the Toyota Alphard?

For the longest time, in fact more than a decade now, we’ve had less than a handful of decent full-sized 7-seater MPVs to choose from and we all know which our society eventually obsessed over.

The Toyota Alphard/Vellfire’s dominance could be at stake now that Kia, who now operates under Bermaz Auto, has been launched – for a very competitive RM196,341.

The 11-seater Kia Carnival MPV will be able in a single variant, powered by a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission to drive the front wheels. Rest assured, there’s be as much power as there is mileage per tank.

There’s 199 hp and 440 Nm to play with from as low as 1,750 rpm, and Kia expects it to be a light drinker too; with a fuel consumption rating of just 6.5L/100km. Not bad considering how heavy the Carnival MPV is, weighing just over 2-tonnes!

Key features in the Carnival MPV include a 18-inch wheels, full LED lighting in the front with bulb-type lighting for the taillamps and rear fog lamps, 3-zone air conditioning system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, seven USB ports and a huge 12.3-inch infotainment system.

For safety and driver aids, the Kia Carnival MPV comes with seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag, complemented with a blindspot monitor, rear cross traffic alert with autonomous braking and surround view monitor.

The Carnival MPV also comes with the Safe Exit Assist (SEA) feature which prevents the power-sliding rear doors from opening if the system detects a car approaching from behind on either side.
