Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia ends 2021 with 17,489 vehicles sold – 91% jump over 2020

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) sold a total of 17,489 vehicles throughout 2021, the company announced through a press release today. The figure represents a 91% year-on-year growth over 2020, despite the ongoing challenges brought forth by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The increase is largely credited to the performance of the Mitsubishi Xpander, with a total of 7,397 units sold last year. With that, MMM says that the Xpander is now the “best-selling Japanese seven-seater crossover in Malaysia” – a category that is likely only shared with the Honda BR-V.

Meanwhile, the company’s best-selling model crown is retained by the Mitsubishi Triton, which also enjoyed strong sales performance throughout 2021 with a total of 9,268 units sold – a 34% increase over the previous year.

“Despite another year of being disrupted by Covid-19, we are thankful for our customers for showing trust, confidence, and loyalty towards the Mitsubishi Motors brand. We are pleased that Xpander has enjoyed strong sales performance thanks to the extension of the tax-free incentive period,” said MMM’s new Chief Executive Officer, Shinya Ikeda.

“This decision by the Malaysian government has certainly helped the industry to sustain itself during this challenging phase. At Mitsubishi Motors, we have now progressed to increase our production volume for Xpander, to cater for higher production capacity, and to fulfill all booking demands.”

“The continued growth of Mitsubishi Motors market compared to last year is a sign that we are steadily moving towards recovery. As we look forward to advancing and progressing into 2022, we have heard every customer’s feedback regarding our products and services, and we will continue to improve for an ownership experience of the highest standard,” Ikeda added.

Ikeda also extended his heartfelt sympathy to those who were affected by the recent devastating floods throughout the country. Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia will offer a 30% discount on spare parts, and 50% discount on labour costs from today until the 20th January 2022 for vehicles that have been damaged by the floods.

Additionally, the company will also be offering free towing services for the flood-hit customers. If you require the services, do contact the Mitsubishi Assist 24-hours customer careline (MA24) at 1-800-88-2166.
