Video: Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG Line, 5 Things

With car showrooms reopening even to those who are not fully vaccinated, businesses look set to return in full swing and we’d expect nothing less for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia after a myriad of launches recently.

They include the new E 300 Coupe, the E 200 Avantgarde, and the E 300 AMG Line, and the enormous GLE 450 which has been dressed with AMG attire.

Like its direct competitor, the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport, the GLE 450 AMG Line is powered by a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder turbocharged straight-six engine.

Like its plug-in hybrid BMW rival, the GLE 450 also offers plenty of low-end performance, albeit delivered in a more traditional fashion. The only electrical assistance here is a 48V mild-hybrid system.

With the big turbocharged engine, the GLE 450 delivers 367 hp and 500 Nm, feeding power to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. That’s less than the BMW’s 394 hp and 600 Nm, but on paper, they’re not far off. The GLE does 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds while the X5 is just 0.1 seconds quicker.

Compared to its direct competitor, the GLE 450 AMG Line costs about RM30k more at RM475,501. Is it worth the extra money? Think you’ll be easily convinced after the video.
