Hyundai’s new Elantra N performance sedan looks like a race car from 2050!

Hyundai is wasting no time in increasing the line-up of their high-performance and motorsport-derived N line. The latest Elantra sedan will be joining the family soon, with the company release a lone teaser image of the new N model.

Hyundai says the upcoming Elantra N combines the practicality of an everyday car with the exciting sportiness of a high-performance race car.

No mention of the power unit under the hood, but expect to be the brand’s high-output 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 280 hp and 392 Nm of torque. Being the first sedan model in the N family, the Elantra N features an elevated rear spoiler on its boot lid.

The Hyundai N range currently consists of:

  • i30 N – 280 hp, 392 Nm, 6-MT or 8-DCT, 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds
  • Veloster N – 280 hp, 378 Nm, 6-MT or 8-DCT, 5.6 seconds
  • Kona N – 280 hp, 392 Nm, 8-speed DCT, 5.5 seconds
  • i20 N – 204 hp, 304 Nm, 6-speed manual, 6.7 seconds

Apart from the Hyundai Kona N, all N models have racing siblings in Touring Car Racing (TCR) and WRC categories.

When paired with the new ‘N DCT’ 8-speed dual-clutch (wet-type) transmission, the Hyundai N cars have three selectable programs that add more fun behind the wheel. There is N Power Shift (full throttle upshift program), N Grin Shift (over-boost mode) and N Track Sense Shift (auto-shifting at race circuits).

Other key features in full-fledged Hyundai N cars include a limited-slip differential (LSD), downshift rev-matching, sports exhaust system with electronic valve controller, sports-tuned suspension. A lot of fine-tuning of the chassis and powertrain is also done at the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife.

There is also the N Line range with 201 hp

In Malaysia, the Elantra model is offered in two variants- Executive and Premium. The engine is limited to a 123 hp / 154 Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder unit and paired with a CVT-type transmission. Prices for the new Elantra starts from RM139,888.
