2020 Toyota Yaris facelift unveiled in Thailand – AEB, Apple CarPlay included!

Shortly after the international debut of the 2020 Toyota Vios in Philippines, Toyota Thailand has now unveiled the new Yaris facelift, bringing over some of the design changes that has been introduced to the B-segment sedan.

Up front, the 2020 Toyota Yaris receives a similar new face to the Vios (also known as the Yaris Ativ in Thailand), replacing the old wide grin-like lower grille from the outgoing model. The Yaris, catering to the sportier and more youthful crowd, gets a mesh-like pattern instead of the horizontal slats as seen on the Vios.

The headlights are now slimmer and integrates neatly into the tweaked upper grille, with the range-topping variants receiving fully LED units with integrated LED daytime-running lights. Other cosmetic upgrades include more discreet skirtings all round, along with a less shouty rear lower apron and roof spoiler.

The new exterior look is completed by the new 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, while the range-topping Sport Premium variant in Thailand gets a blacked-out roof.

Inside, the bright brushed silver trims on the outgoing model have been replaced by darker smoked brushed aluminium items. But most importantly, the infotainment display has also been upgraded with a 6.7-inch unit, now supporting Apple CarPlay connectivity in addition to MirrorLink screen mirroring!

The new 2020 Thailand-spec Toyota Vios and Yaris also received a big upgrade in its safety department, now equipped with a basic Toyota Safety Sense advanced driver assistance suite, including autonomous emergency braking and lane departure alert (without correction assist) on the range-topping Sport Premium variant.

Otherwise, the rest of the B-segment duos remain unchanged, including the Thailand-only 3NR-FE 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, making 86 PS and 108 Nm. When the facelift models make its way over to our country though, expect to see the same 1.5-litre 2NR-FE units under the hood.

As the outgoing Toyota Vios and Yaris were only launched here in Malaysia last year, it might still be some time before we get see the facelifted models being introduced here on our shores. However, with the all-new Honda City and Nissan Almera due for launch very soon, the B-segment space is shaping up to be quite an exciting playing field!
