Alongside the X3 M Competition, BMW Malaysia has also brought out the X4 M Competition at the Secret Garage @ M Town event last weekend, which saw the introduction of four new M models in our country – the two aforementioned, along with the M8 and M8 Gran Coupe.
Just like the regular SUVs, the X4 M is also pretty much identical to its more “proper” twin, aside from the appearance of course. Powering the new performance SUV is the new S58 three-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, good for 510 hp and 600 Nm of torque in the Competition form – the only version we’ll be getting here in Malaysia.
The new engine – which will also be used on the upcoming BMW M3 and M4 – is paired to an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via a M-specific xDrive system, which can be set to a rear-bias in sports mode.
Being a full-blown M model, there are of course a whole swath of M Performance Parts to help with enthusiastic driving situations. These include adaptive suspensions, strut braces in the engine bay and stiffer suspensions, as well as M Compound Brakes for more weight saving and higher stopping performance.
As for looks, the X4 M Competition gets pretty much all of the M touches that has been fitted to its non-identical twin, including the more aggressive front and rear aprons, as well as 21-inch bicolour M light alloy wheels. Thanks to its sloping roofline, the BMW X4 M gets an aerodynamic bootlip spoiler instead of the roof spoiler as seen on the X3 M.
On the inside, the X4 M Competition is spruced up with a whole bunch of M-specific bits and bobs, including new M Sport leather steering wheel with red M drive buttons, M-specific instrument cluster and head-up display, redesigned gear selector lever, M sport leather seats with illuminated M logos, M pedals, and carbon fibre interior trims.
The BMW X4 M Competition is priced at RM904,276.60 in Malaysia, and includes as standard a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty, free scheduled service programme, and roadside assistance and accident hotline. With BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia’s Balloon Financing Plan, the X4 M Competition can be yours starting from RM10,318 per month, based on estimates of a 80% loan on a five year tenure.
