The third-generation Toyota Vios recently received a major makeover for the Malaysian market, and we had the opportunity to sample the car first hand before its official debut taking it from Kuala Lumpur to Desaru Johor and back, covering almost 1,000 km in the process.
Despite wearing a new shell of the Yaris Ativ and extensively enhanced features (7 airbags, drive mode selector and blind spot monitor!), this remains to be the third-generation Vios adopting the same 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with 7 virtual ratios. Output remains to be at 107 hp and 140 Nm driving the front wheels.
With prices starting from RM77,200 to RM87,300, the striking design with aero kit (standard across all variants), 7 airbags, Vehicle Stability Control and improved NVH levels, the Vios has finally caught up with segment leader, Honda City.
