Perodua sold 227,243 cars in 2018, aims to do better in 2019

Perodua has just announced its best-ever sales performance in 2018 with 227,243 new cars delivered to customers. The 10.9 per cent increase in sales compared to the previous year was attributed to the three-months tax holiday.

In 2018, the Myvi remains Perodua’s best-selling model with 82,122 units registered out of the 117,844 bookings in that year alone. To-date, there are over 91,500 units of the third-generation Myvi on Malaysian roads and the company expects the hatchback to continue to be a growth driver for 2019.

Will last year’s stellar performance be the green light for the Myvi GT?

The Axia, Bezza and Alza remain to be their respective segment leaders with 70,821, 49,911 and 24,389 units sold respectively in 2018. Perodua’s model line up was recently expanded with the recent introduction of the Aruz seven-seater SUV.

Newly appointed Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said: “For Perodua, the Myvi is expected to remain popular this year, and since we started order-taking for the Aruz on 3 January, we have collected nearly 5,700 bookings to date. Given that our sales target is 2,500 units monthly, the figure is very encouraging indeed.”

The company aims to better last year’s sales performance by 1.7 per cent to 231,000 units by end-2019 underpinned by the Myvi and the Aruz.
