The Leapmotor D19 EREV has a battery larger than many pure EVs

At Auto China 2026, Leapmotor showcased the D19, the marque’s largest SUV to date. On the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant, which features an 800V architecture, the D19 also claims the title for the largest battery pack ever fitted to an EREV at 80.3 kWh.

This EREV setup utilises traction motors on both axles for a combined output of 408 hp (300 kW) and 525 Nm of torque, paired with a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine serving strictly as a range extender.

On the move, the Leapmotor D19 delivers a pure EV range of 370 km (WLTC), while the total combined range reaches 972 km (WLTC). Recharging from 30-80% takes 15 minutes via DC charging, while the same charge window on an AC charger requires roughly 7.7 hours

There is also a variant featuring a smaller 63.7 kWh battery, which powers the same dual motor setup to produce identical outputs. While the pure EV range drops to 285 km (WLTC), the total combined range is actually higher at 1,050 km (WLTC).

This is because this variant features a larger 52-litre fuel tank, whereas the 80.3 kWh variant makes do with 40 litres. DC fast charging from 30-80% also takes 15 minutes, though the 30-80% AC charge time is slightly faster at 6.2 hours.

For those looking to ditch petrol entirely, the BEV variant of the D19 steps up to a 1,000V architecture. These are available with 99.6 kWh or 115 kWh batteries, offering CLTC ranges between 620 km and 720 km, respectively.

The standard BEV powertrain produces 550 hp (410 kW), while a range-topping tri motor variant delivers 724 hp (540 kW), allowing the D19 to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.94 seconds. The BEV variant of the D19, thanks to its 1,000V architecture, can regain 350 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging.

Regardless of powertrains, both underpin a body measuring 5,252 mm long, making the D19 comparable in size to the Zeekr 9X. If the exterior with its two-tone paint job and 21-inch monoblock alloy wheels is any indication, the Leapmotor D19 is clearly aiming for a slice of the 9X’s market share.

This luxury offensive continues inside, where the cabin is available in six or seven-seater configurations, with the former featuring individual captain chairs in the second row, the right of which can be transformed into zero-gravity mode with a single button press.

All seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, with the first and second rows offering powered adjustments, lumbar support, ventilation, and massage functions. A three-zone climate control system, electric sunshades for all windows, and an 8.1 litre refrigerator in the centre console are also included. Topping it all off, there is an in-car fragrance dispenser and even an optional Morino Oxygen Chamber, which can provide oxygen via both cabin diffusion and nasal inhalation, perhaps to combat altitude sickness.

On the tech side, the D19 features a 17.3-inch centre infotainment display and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel. Six-seater variants add a ceiling-mounted 21.3-inch 3K display for rear passengers, with the screens supporting voice commands and face ID. Naturally, there is also an in-car karaoke system, with audio delivered through a 23-speaker sound system producing 2,304W.

For safety, the Leapmotor D19 comes with a suite of ADAS features, including autonomous parking, parking space navigation, and city navigation assist. These systems are supported by a roof-mounted LiDAR, 12 ultrasonic radars, and an extensive array of cameras around the vehicle.
