All-new third-generation Mazda CX-5 teased ahead of launch

Mazda has released a series of teaser images for the upcoming all-new third-generation CX-5, which is set to debut on July 10. The images are intentionally underexposed, revealing only the SUV’s silhouette and lighting elements. However, with some editing, we managed to uncover additional details.

Overall, the silhouette of the car doesn’t appear to have changed much. The sharp nose and short rear overhang look similar to the current-generation Mazda CX-5, suggesting that the ‘Kodo’ design philosophy remains—albeit in a more evolved form.

At the front, the slim headlight design of the current-generation Mazda CX-5 seems to have been carried over. The L-shaped daytime running lights are now staggered on top of each other, instead of being arranged side by side like the current generation.

Moving to the back, the rear bumper seems to feature more plastic cladding dressed in a combination of matte and gloss black. This suggests that the car may be taking on a more fierce and rugged look compared to the smooth and classy design of the current model.

Following that fiercer theme, the taillights are now wider and bear a resemblance to those on the Mazda CX-60 and CX-80. Thankfully, Mazda has yet to succumb to any fake exhausts nonsense—the real exhaust pipe remains visibly integrated beneath the rear bumper

Peek really closely at the picture, and you can see that the tailgate no longer wears the Mazda badge but instead features the “Mazda” wordmark now displayed as letter badging.

Unfortunately, no information about the car has been revealed other than these teaser images. However, Mazda did mention that the car will have a more confidence-inspiring drive with enhanced comfort, which suggests there will be even more changes in the ride and handling department.

In addition to its launch on July 10, the next-generation Mazda CX-5 is expected to debut Mazda’s new SkyActiv-Z hybrid powertrain. The upcoming hybrid system promises improved efficiency and performance, and will be offered alongside the brand’s existing range of engines.
