Alright, get ready for a new player in the Malaysian car scene – it’s called iCaur! This brand used to be known as iCar, yet another sub-brand from Chery. The name change for overseas markets is a bit of a head-scratcher. Perhaps the company wanted to steer clear of any confusion with that tech giant with a fruit logo.
This was confirmed by the company’s own Facebook post, which teased a silhouette of an SUV – and we’re guessing it’s the fully electric (EV) iCar 03.
As we’ve reported before, iCaur is gearing up to launch in Malaysia this year with a trio of models, with both fully electric (EV) and range-extender electric vehicle (REEV) models.
Now, the iCar 03 might ring a bell if you were at last year’s Malaysia Autoshow 2024, where it was previewed as the Jaecoo J6. It looks like the design team might have been taking notes from the Land Rover Defender, because the iCar 03 seems to be borrowing some serious styling cues from the British SUV.

When it comes to powertrains, the iCar 03 will offer a choice between rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The RWD version features an electric motor that makes 181 hp and 220 Nm of torque, drawing power from a 65.69 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that provides a range of 371 km (WLTP).
Opt for the AWD, and you’ll get an extra electric motor on the front axle, boosting the total system output to 275 hp and 385 Nm, paired with a larger 69.77 kWh battery. Despite a larger battery, the AWD iCar 03 has a slightly shorter range of 364 km (WLTP) due to its higher output.
Both variants support AC charging at 6.6 kW and DC charging at 80 kW, and also support vehicle-to-load (V2L) at 3.3 kW. With the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 just around the corner, all signs point to the iCar 03 making its official Malaysian debut there, so stay tuned for our coverage!
