At the press conference during the launch of the XPeng X9 today, Bermaz Auto Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Francis Lee revealed that the brand will be unveiling two more new models “within the next year”.
No specific model was named, although Lee hinted that at least one of the models would be from the marque’s existing line-up. The upcoming XPeng G7 could also likely be a strong contender, although the company will only decide at a later date on which model is more “suitable for the ASEAN market”.
The information was revealed by Dato’ Francis Lee in response to a question on XPeng’s local assembly (CKD) plans here in Malaysia. While no specific details can be announced yet, Lee said that Bermaz Auto is currently in discussion with XPeng to “prepare” for CKD in Malaysia – but no models have been decided yet.
However, the specific timeline or feasibility will depend on the government’s policy, Lee adds. The tax exemption for electric vehicles (EVs) is set to expire by the end of 2025 for fully imported (CBU) models, and 2027 for CKD EVs.

Lee said he hopes to see more clarity from the government in relation to the EV tax structure moving forward, so carmakers and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) can “decide” if Malaysia can become an EV manufacturing hub for the region.
No matter the CKD plans, though, XPeng Vice President of Finance and Accounting James Wu assures that all of its products and models in Malaysia will be priced “as competitive as possible”, as it intends to demonstrate with the XPeng X9 EV MPV, which has just been launched here, priced from RM270,708.
