Xpeng Mona 03 EV launched in China – half the price of Tesla Model 3, up to 620km range

While Xpeng has just made its official debut in Malaysia with the Xpeng G6 as its pilot model, it has launched its new Xpeng Mona 03 in China, which has its eyes set on the Tesla Model 3. Upon its launch in China, it is made available in 3 variants, with prices starting from CNY119,800 (approx. RM73k) for the base variant.

The three variants of the Xpeng Mona 03 in China are the 515 which costs CNY119,800 (approx. RM73k), the 620 which costs CNY129,800 (approx. RM79k), and the 580 Max which costs CNY155,800 (approx. RM95k). It is generally about half the price of the Tesla Model 3 in China which costs from CNY231,900 (approx. RM141k) to CNY271,900 (approx. RM165k).

Dimensionally similar to the Tesla Model 3, the Xpeng Mona 03 measures 4,780 mm long, 1,896 mm wide, and 1,445 mm tall, with a wheelbase that measures 2,815 mm long. On the outside, it sports a Polestar-like front end and a TVR-like rear end design. Among the colour options for the Xpeng Mona 03 are Xinghan Rice, Xingyao Blue, Night Black, Nebula White, and Xingque Gray.

As for the powertrain, the entry-level 515 variant gets a single-motor front-wheel drive (FWD) setup that produces a peak power of 190 hp (metric) and a peak torque of 225 Nm. As for the other two variants of the Xpeng Mona 03, they are also powered by a single motor FWD setup, albeit with more power and torque at 218 hp (metric) and 250 Nm.

Storing power in the Xpeng Mona 03 are FInDreams (a BYD subsidiary)-sourced LFP batteries, with the entry-level 515 variant getting a 51.8 kWh battery while the 620 and 580 get a 62.2 kWh battery pack. The numbers in the variant names essentially reflect their CLTC electric range.

Inside, the Xpeng Mona 03 has taken inspiration from the Tesla Model 3 with its minimalistic cabin design. Like the Tesla Model 3, it doesn’t get an instrument cluster, although it does come with a gear column to the right of the steering wheel. It sports a 2-spoke steering wheel and a 15.6-inch head unit that is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip with 16 GB of RAM.

As standard, the Xpeng Mona M03 is equipped with 2-mm wavelength radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 7 cameras, offering L2 intelligent driving ability. Xpeng claims the car has the strongest perception ability in its class, along with the best-in-class automatic parking system.
