With less than a week to go before doors open to the public at Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024), UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has taken to its social media to tease the all-new ninth-generation Toyota Camry, which will be making its debut at the Show.
“Icons never stay still. The next evolution is coming soon. Unveiling the next icon at KLIMS 2024,” the caption for the Facebook post read, followed by a post with the Camry placed alongside the Toyota Corolla Cross facelift, which has already been confirmed for launch at KLIMS 2024. Could the Camry also be launched officially at the Show this week?
The ninth-generation (XV80) 2024 Toyota Camry was most recently launched in Vietnam, marking the third ASEAN region to introduce the D-segment sedan following its debut in Singapore back in August this year, and Thailand earlier in October.
Both the Thailand and Singapore markets get the Camry solely in hybrid form, featuring a 2.5-litre atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine (188 hp, 221 Nm) paired to an e-CVT gearbox with an electric motor (136 hp/100 kW, 208 Nm), making a combined output of 231 hp (227 hp in Thai market, presumably due to the market’s E20 gasohol fuel).

Vietnam does however get a pure ICE option for its entry-level variant, retaining the old 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine that makes 178 hp and 210 Nm.
Given that the outgoing Toyota Camry in Malaysia is only available in a sole 2.5V variant, though, we’ll most likely follow in the footsteps of Singapore and Thailand with only the hybrid variant on offer. The company’s teaser hints as much, with both the Camry and Corolla Cross Hybrid teased under the marque’s “Beyond Zero” electrification banner.
Aside from the new powertrain, the all-new ninth-generation 2024 Toyota Camry has also been given a thorough redesign, most notably in front where it now gets the marque’s new “hammerhead” grille, as seen on the Prius and Crown Sport. Inside, the dashboard has also been significantly overhauled, with a new horizontally styled dashboard accented by a pair of 12.3-inch screens, one serving as the infotainment display, and the other the digital instrument cluster.
Detailed specifications will of course differ according to variant, but based on the Thai specifications, we’ll see wheels ranging from 17- to 18-inches in diametre, alongside interior creature comforts such as a nine-speaker JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a wireless charging pad on the range-topping variant.

For context, the all-new ninth-generation 2024 Toyota Camry is priced from THB1.45 million (approx RM187k) in Thailand, which is actually slightly cheaper than it’s predecessor’s sticker price at launch – possibly due to the nation’s favourable incentives for hybrid vehicles. The outgoing Toyota Camry in Malaysia was last available at RM219,800 on-the-road, without insurance.
Coincidentally, the current eight-generation Toyota Camry was also launched here in Malaysia at the previous edition of KLIMS, held some six years ago in 2018 – a true full circle if the all-new ninth-generation model were to also be launched at the show!
KLIMS 2024 will be open to the public from 5-11 December 2024. Tickets are now on sale – more details here.
