Toyota GR Supra bids farewell with “Final Edition” track-honed special – production to end 2025

The Toyota GR Supra’s production run is coming to an end next year. As a last hurrah, Toyota has introduced the limited-edition GR Supra “A90 Final Edition” as a culmination of everything they’ve learned in the past six years.

Limited to just 300 units globally, the Toyota GR “A90 Final Edition” has received a handful of track-honed upgrades, including additional aerodynamic appendages on the exterior (peek that carbon fibre swanneck spoiler!), a spruced up interior with carbon fibre bucket seats, and most importantly, extra power.

The Final Edition model is still based on the same BMW-sourced B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six mill, but Toyota engineers have managed to squeeze out an additional 48 hp and 70 Nm of torque from the engine, bringing the total now up to 435 hp and 570 Nm.

Those extra horses are courtesy of the revised intake air path, a new low-back-pressure catalyst to reduce pressure loss, and a new ECU tune. Toyota did not reveal what the extra raw grunt mean in terms of performance figures, but we think it’s probably enough to bring the 0-100 km/h sprint time down under the four seconds mark (the standard Supra does it in 4.1 seconds).

To go along with the extra power, the Toyota Supra A90 Final Edition also gains a new baffle plate in the oil pan to stop oil starvation in track use (a problem the GR86 had), extra cooling measures in the form of an extra a sub-radiator and larger cooling fins on the differential housing, plus a new Akrapovic titanium muffler that Toyota says gives it a “powerful engine sound”.

The brakes have also been upgraded with new Brembo brake pads and cross-drilled discs, while the Supra GT4 racecar-inherited KW dampers, rear subframe, bushings, and additional braces all help make the limited-run Supra sharper on track too – ditto the new wider Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tyres on 19- and 20-inch staggered wheels.

Just too bad the Toyota Supra A90 Final Edition won’t be (officially) making its way to Malaysia, as it is only planned for introduction in Japan and Europe, starting Spring 2024. For the rest of us, there’s at least still a “partially upgraded” standard Toyota Supra with a handful of chassis upgrades – but no extra power.

These mods included revised adaptive dampers and bushings, stiffer bracing and subframes mounts, retuned electric power steering, and even a retuned active rear differential to reduce understeer. And to complete the package, there’s also a new carbon fibre lip spoiler at the rear, working together with the new front wheel arch flaps to enhance aerodynamic balance and downforce, in addition to looking good, of course.
