Toyota GR Supra now with 6-speed manual in Malaysia, from RM645k

When the Supra first made its world debut, it was only available with an automatic transmission sourced from ZF. With enthusiasts demanding the good old stick shift, the 6-speed manual Toyota Supra finally made its world debut three years later but not too late in April 2022, and has now been officially launched in Malaysia, fetching a price of RM645,000.

Everything else largely remains the same with the Supra still powered by a 3.0-litre turbo inline 6 engine that makes 387 hp and 500 Nm. Besides the transmission, Toyota has also improved the ride and handling and comfort levels of the Supra.

There is also a new set of 19-inch wheels introduced to the Supra together with the new transmission. Inspired by the wheels in the GR Yaris and 86, these 19-inch wheels are 1.2 kg lighter each.

The AVS system, alongside the electric power steering and Vehicle Stability Control, has also been retuned for “improved overall steering feel and controllability” at the car’s limits. Meanwhile, the car’s Track mode has also been specifically reworked to allow for “easy drifting”.

Like the GR Yaris and GR Corolla, the manual transmission in the supra is the 6-speed Toyota Intelligent manual transmission (iMT), which offers automatic rev-matching and throttle blipping.

The final drive ratio is also shorter than that of the eight-speed box, at 3.46 vs the automatic’s 3.15. The only thing left missing to make this a perfect car to hoon around is a hand-operated parking brake like that found in the Toyota GR Corolla.

Malaysian readers, if you’ve always been asking for a manual version of the latest-generation Toyota Supra, here’s your chance to own one. The manual Toyota Supra is officially available in Malaysia at RM645,000.
