5th-gen Toyota Prius to launch in Thailand by year end – 200 units only

Toyota Motor Thailand has planned to import a limited quantity of 200 5th-gen Prius models from Japan later this year, according to Headlightmag. The highly anticipated Prius was unveiled in 2022. The Prius’s in Thailand follow after the introduction in Singapore and Indonesia.

The current Toyota Prius is built on the second-generation Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) Platform, which is developed to provide more driving fun and a lower center of gravity. Size-wise the Prius measures 4.600 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, 1,420 mm in height, and 2,750 mm in wheelbase.

The front design uses the company’s new design theme called the Hammerhead Shark Design. The hood line is designed to slope continuously to the windshield line and roofline, and ends at the rear end which is designed to resemble a fastback car. Although the overall design looks wedge-shaped, the drag coefficient of the Prius has increased from 0.24 in the previous model to 0.27.

It is expected that the Thailand market will be having a 2.0-litre series parallel hybrid producing 194 hp (metric) and 206 Nm which allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds. Power is sent to the front wheels via the e-CVT gearbox.

Standard equipment include a 7-inch digital instrument display, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, a camera-based rearview mirror, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The cabin ambiance is enhanced by ambient lighting, which also serves as a visual alert in emergencies.

Safety-wise, the Toyota Prius comes with the full-suite Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. This includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDASA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Road Sign Assist (RSA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), and many more.
