Perodua sales jump 102% in September as production resumes post lockdown

Perodua has just published its sales data for the month of September 2021, where it managed to ship 14,160 units. Compared to August (6,988 units), the latest figures represented a 102% jump in sales, marking the third consecutive month of sales improvements.

The national carmaker attributed the sales growth over the past few months to the gradual improvements in the supply chain, following extended struggles in keeping up to demand due to the mandatory closures due to the Covid-19 lockdown, further exacerbated by the worldwide silicon shortage.

“The automotive supply chain has shown improvements but have yet to reach their full potential. We are continuously working with our suppliers and dealers to further improve productivity and safety,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

Year-to-date, Perodua has sold 119,093 between January and September 2021, comparatively lower to the 145,012 units sold in the same period last year. When comparing the second quarter of the year to the third, sales dropped by 44.6% to 21,803 units between July and September (39,381 from April to June).

Despite that, Dato’ Zainal remains optimistic about Perodua’s sales performance from October onwards. “The fourth quarter of 2021 does offer a better outlook than the previous two quarters, especially the marked improvement in the reduction of COVID-19 cases nationwide as well as the nearly 90% vaccination rate of the Malaysian adult population.”

For those still waiting on the delivery of their Perodua Ativa, Dato’ Zainal explained that the gradual ramp up in both production and sales were due to the strict quality control measures throughout the company’s operations to ensure customer satisfaction.

“We thank our customers that have continued to be patient with us as we further improve production,” Dato’ Zainal added.
