Suzuki Jimny 5-door teased in Malaysia, launching soon?

Suzuki’s official distributor in Malaysia, Naza Eastern Motors, has just dropped a teaser of the Suzuki Jimny five-door on its social media page. The teaser shows the regular three-door Jimny being cut in half, with the tagline “squeezed” in between that reads “extra 5space anyone?”

Despite the teaser post announcing that the car is now open for reservations via a link to its website, the company’s official website does not appear to be carrying any information on the five-door Jimny at the moment.

The five-door version of the mini off-roader made its global debut in India last year and is essentially an extended version of the regular three-door Jimny. This is the first time the Jimny is offered in this configuration.

As expected, the Suzuki Jimny five-door measures longer than its three-door counterpart by 505 mm, resulting in its total length of 3,985 mm. Its wheelbase has also been lengthened by 340 mm, which totals up to 2,590 mm. Aside from its extra length and doors, the Suzuki Jimny five-door still carries the same body design on the inside.

Under the hood of the Suzuki Jimny five-door is the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder mill found in its shorter sibling, which produces 102 hp and 130 Nm. Transmission options offered here include the four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual transmission.

Inside, the Suzuki Jimny five-door is, again, very much similar to the three-door version, with the only exception being the additional second-row seats. The rear space has also been given some special rear seats and interior trim.

Currently in Malaysia, two versions of the Suzuki Jimny are offered in Malaysia. This includes the regular three-door Jimny which retails for RM158,900, as well as the limited Jimny Rhino Edition which can be yours from RM174,900. Both variants are powered by the same 1.5-litre engine, which is paired to a four-speed automatic transmission.

With Naza Eastern Motors having just teased the 5-door Suzuki Jimny in Malaysia, could this mean we are nearing its launch date? Only time will tell.
