Dongfeng Malaysia gears up for CKD operations and nationwide aftersales network expansion

Dongfeng is expected to commence locally-assembled (CKD) operations in Malaysia between 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, according to the founder of Volt Auto and partner of local distributor Central Auto Distributors Berhad, Soh Ming.

Speaking at a media event, Soh did not reveal the models set for CKD but noted that subsequent launches will feature hybrid powertrains, alongside plans to export the Malaysian-assembled vehicles.

The company also plans to expand its dealership network by opening new dedicated 3S centres in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor, with more locations on the horizon. To bolster the service footprint, 70% of all nationwide after-sales locations will be equipped with a proper workshop.

At present, Dongfeng’s retail presence relies primarily on a reconditioned car dealer network tied to Central Auto Distributors Berhad, a subsidiary of PEKEMA, operating alongside a handful of newly established, dedicated showrooms.

While the exact local lineup remains a mystery, the company previously announced it will preview three new vehicles at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS), specifically the Dongfeng MHero II, Voyah Dream, and Dongfeng 008. This trio will complement the three models currently on sale in Malaysia, which include the Box, Vigo, and 007, with the latter two having launched in early 2026.

Priced from RM109,688, the Dongfeng Vigo C-segment SUV uses a front-mounted traction motor producing 163 hp and 230 Nm to hit 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. Its 51.87 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides a range of 471 km (CLTC) and supports 6.6 kW AC charging alongside 167 kW DC fast charging, which reportedly tops the battery to 80% in 18 minutes.

The D-segment Dongfeng 007 fastback sedan starts from RM170,848 and comes in two variants. The base model pairs a 272 hp, 310 Nm rear motor with a 73.48 kWh LFP battery to manage 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and a range of 650 km (CLTC). The range-topping all-wheel-drive variant adds a front motor to boost output to 544 hp and 620 Nm, dropping the century sprint time to 3.9 seconds while extracting a range of 565 km (CLTC) from the same 73.48 kWh battery.

Both variants of the Dongfeng 007 support AC charging at 6.6 kW and DC charging at 200 kW, which reportedly allows an “11-minute fast charge,” although the specific state of charge is not disclosed.
