Lee Chong Wei’s latest car is a Zeekr 7X

Malaysian badminton legend Dato’ Seri Dr. Lee Chong Wei has expanded his vehicle collection with the delivery of a new Zeekr 7X. The handover took place recently at the Zeekr Space Sunway City showroom.

The former world number one opted for the flagship AWD Performance variant, finished in a snazzy blue colour replete with a silver roof, currently priced at RM230,800 following the model’s recent price adjustment following the end of tax exemptions for imported electric vehicles (EV). This model features a dual-motor powertrain delivering a combined 646 hp and 710 Nm, enabling 0-100 km/h in a swift 3.8 seconds.

He probably won’t be too taken aback by the performance, though, given that this purchase isn’t Lee Chong Wei’s first foray into EVs – he was famously the first person in Malaysia to take delivery of the BMW iX back in 2022.

“First impression? Solid. The premium feel is there the moment you step in. Refined, powerful, and very smooth,” Lee shared his first thoughts on his new car in a Facebook post. “Time to take it on the road and really test the acceleration and handling as you all know I like performance.”

This handover follows closely after another landmark delivery for Zeekr Malaysia. In December 2025, the company celebrated its 2,000th unit milestone just one year after its official launch, with that commemorative vehicle—also a Zeekr 7X AWD Performance, but finished in Forest Green—delivered to iconic Malaysian artiste Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza.

In related news, Zeekr Malaysia is planning to launch three new models in 2026. The most significant addition will be the arrival of the flagship Zeekr 9X, a full-size plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV that boasts up to 1,300 hp. While the other two models remain under wraps, silhouettes from recent media presentations strongly suggest a facelifted version of the compact Zeekr X and the ultra-luxury four-seater Grand Collector’s Edition of the Zeekr 009.

These upcoming launches are part of a strategic roadmap to double cumulative sales in Malaysia to 20,000 units by 2028. To support this growth, the company has also confirmed plans to commence local assembly (CKD) operations in Tanjung Malim, Perak, within the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV), making Malaysia the first country outside of China to assemble Zeekr models.
