2026 Toyota Harrier HEV launched in Malaysia – 2.5L hybrid with 217 hp, RM289k

UMW Toyota Motor has launched the new Toyota Harrier Hybrid Electric (HEV) in Malaysia. The new variant is priced at RM289,000 on-the-road without insurance, representing a RM12,000 premium over the previous Harrier 2.0 Luxury SE, and a RM15,000 premium over the Harrier 2.0 Luxury. The two non-hybrid models have now been delisted from the official website, which means the new HEV is now the only variant of the Toyota Harrier available for the Malaysian market.

Under the bonnet, the Toyota Harrier HEV uses Toyota’s fourth-generation series-parallel hybrid system, pairing a 178 hp/221 Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an 119 hp/202 Nm electric motor.

The setup produces a combined 217 hp and sends it to the front wheels via an E-CVT that allows the engine and motor to drive the car individually or simultaneously, the latter in both series (engine charges the battery only) and parallel configurations, depending on what is most efficient at any given driving condition. In return, the Harrier HEV boasts a fuel consumption figure of just 4.7 L/100 km (NEDC).

Exterior-wise, the Toyota Harrier HEV looks identical to its pure-petrol powered counterpart, bar for the addition of a new “HEV” emblem on the right side of the tailgate. Otherwise, the standard equipment of the Harrier HEV includes:

  • Automatic Bi-LED projector headlights with LED turn signals
  • LED daytime-running lights (DRLs)
  • LED front and rear fog lamps

  • Welcome lights
  • Auto retractable side mirrors with turn signal lamp and puddle lamp
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Hands-free powered tailgate with kick-sensor
  • Automatic windshield wipers
