While the Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5) is still readying for local assembly (CKD) here in Tanjung Malim, its sister model, the Geely EX2, has already begun CKD production in Indonesia.

The Geely EX2 is being built at contract assembler PT Handal Indonesia Motor’s plant in Purwakarta, as the third model assembled there after the EX5 (eMAS 7) and Starray EM-i (eMAS 7 PHEV). According to The Jakarta Globe, the facility has a production capacity of up to 60 vehicles per day.

Notably, the locally assembled Geely EX2 in Indonesia has achieved a local content level (TKDN) of 46.5%, thanks to a broad network of domestic component suppliers. Amongst which is PT Gotion Indonesia, who will be supplying locally produced battery cells for the electric hatchback.

The Geely EX2 uses a Cell-to-Pack battery construction and is equipped with liquid cooling technology, both of which are said to enhance safety and performance.

Set to be officially launched in the Archipelago today, the Geely EX2 will be offered in Indonesia in two variants: the EX2 Pro, estimated to be priced at IDR233 million (approx. RM56k), and EX2 Max at IDR273 million (approx. RM65k).

The company has already received over 1,000 pre-bookings for the compact electric hatchback since the opening of its order books in November last year.

Both variants are powered by the same single-motor setup on the rear axle, offering 116 hp and 150 Nm of torque, paired to a 40.8 kWh battery pack for a driving range of 395 km (NEDC).

This is in contrast to the Proton eMAS 5 lineup in Malaysia, where the entry-level Prime variant gets a smaller 79 hp/130 Nm motor, and a 30.12 kWh LFP battery pack for an NEDC-rated range of 285 km. The eMAS 5 Prime is priced at RM59,800, earning it the title of the most affordable electric vehicle here in Malaysia.
