Proton’s upcoming electric vehicle (EV) production facility in Tanjung Malim is expected to begin local assembly (CKD) operations by the end of 2025. The Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) will be the first EV model to roll off the line at the new factory line, but the national carmaker has also revealed plans to CKD two other models at the same facility, both to be based on the same Proton Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform.
We know one of the two upcoming GMA-based models will be called either the Proton eMAS 5 or eMAS 3, as revealed by Proton CEO Li Chunrong during a media briefing recently. While not confirmed, the yet-unnamed model is likely based on the Geely Xingyuan, which is a compact hatchback about the size of the BYD Dolphin.
In China, the Xingyuan is equipped with either a 78 hp or 114 hp electric motor, and a choice of two battery packs, 30.12 kWh or 40.16 kWh, giving it a CLTC-rated range of 310 km to 410 km respectively.

But what about the other mystery GMA-based model? Well, the short answer is, frankly, we don’t know yet. Looking at Geely’s Galaxy lineup, of which the Proton eMAS 7’s Chinese twin is a part of, a likely candidate could be the Geely Starship 7, which is essentially a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Galaxy E5.
That said, Proton said during its recent groundbreaking event that the upcoming production facility will be a “dedicated EV factory”, so the Starship 7 could be out of the question.
In any case, we will be seeing the CKD Proton eMAS 7 roll off the production floor by the end of 2025. Specifications are likely to remain the same, which means the Proton EV SUV will still be offered with the same 218 hp (160 kW)/320 Nm single-motor front-wheel drive powertrain across two variants.
Both variants are equipped with Geely’s proprietary Aegis short blade battery. The Prime variant is equipped with a 49.52 kWh battery pack, good for a WLTP-rated range of 345 km. Charging is supported with 11 kW AC charging and 80 kW DC charging. The Premium variant gets a bigger 60.22 kWh battery pack, bumping the range up to 410 km (WLTP). It supports the same 11 kW AC charging but DC charging support is increased to 100 kW.
