You’ve seen the car in full, and you’ve probably also heard us talk about how it is to drive. Now, we’re finally onto the final stretch before its launch, as Proton has now officially opened the order books for the all-new 2025 fourth-generation Proton Saga.
The all-new fourth-generation Proton Saga is estimated to be priced between RM40,000 and RM50,000. as revealed by Proton’s new deputy CEO Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa in a livestream last night. And as part of the model’s early-bird launch package, the national carmaker is also offering one year of free service (20,000 km, inclusive of parts and labour), alongside a special edition Saga Touch ‘n Go card for the first 20,000 customers who register their car before the year ends.
Now into its fourth-generation, 40 years after the iconic model first debuted, the all-new 2025 Proton Saga features several big changes, with the biggest perhaps being the new 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine underneath the bonnet, making 120 hp and 150 Nm.
The range-topping Premium variant will see the engine paired to a Punch CVT gearbox, boasting up to 14% improvement in fuel savings, while the two lower-end variants retain the Aisin four-speed automatic gearbox.
It’ll also come with a brand-new design, particularly on the front and rear fascias, although most people would notice that the side profile is still identical to the outgoing model. That’s because despite being branded as “newly developed”, the AMA platform that underpins the fourth-generation 2025 Proton Saga is still based on the very same chassis that can trace its roots all the way back to the Proton Savvy, albeit being heavily redeveloped.
Nevertheless, the interior has still been given a complete refresh, now featuring modern touches such as the twin floating screens on the dashboard, alongside unique local-inspired design touches and new usability upgrades, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
