Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has teased the launch of the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE400e 4Matic+ with EQ hybrid technology in a Facebook post, suggesting its imminent arrival. Joining the existing GLE450 and GLE63S models, the new variant is now open for booking and will sit as the new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option in the GLE lineup.
The new hybrid variant features a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four engine producing 252 hp and 400 Nm, paired with an electric motor generating 136 hp and 440 Nm for a combined system output of 381 hp and 650 Nm.
Power is sent to all four wheels through the marque’s 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system and a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 209 km/h.
Supplying energy to the electric motor is a 31 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides up to 108 km of electric-only range (WLTP). AC charging is supported at up to 11 kW, replenishing the battery from 10-100% in 2.5 hours, while in certain markets, DC fast charging is also supported at up to 60 kW, which cuts charging time from 10-80% to about 29 minutes.

As part of the new GLE facelift, it features updated front and rear light signatures along with revised bumpers for a sportier, more modern look. Inside, there’s a new multi-function steering wheel with touch controls. Based on the teaser image shared in the post, the new GLE PHEV also appears to wear the AMG Line exterior package, identifiable by its signature three-pointed-star pin grille.
Apart from these new additions, expect the same luxuries you’d get in a Mercedes-Benz GLE. This includes faux leather and microfibre combo upholstery, Airmatic air suspension system, and dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and central infotainment display. The latter runs on Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX system with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and benefits from a 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos.
With the Mercedes-Benz GLE450 4Matic AMG Line priced from RM528,888 on-the-road without insurance, the upcoming PHEV sibling could be priced lower if it’s positioned as the lineup’s new base model.
Its closest rival will likely be the BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport — the brand’s base model mid-size SUV — priced from RM508,200 on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of BMW’s warranty package. It will be interesting to see whether Mercedes-Benz positions its new base model below the X5, potentially offering a more accessible alternative to its number one competitor when it launches.
