Proton eMAS 5 racks up 3,000 bookings in a week – over 1,600 in just 24 hours!

The Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5) has amassed 3,000 bookings in just one week since the opening of order books, with a remarkable 1,607 orders recorded within 24 hours of the Open for Booking announcement livestream on 4 October, Pro-Net, the new-energy vehicle subsidiary of national carmaker Proton, announced in a press release today.

Pro-Net attributes the strong debut of the eMAS 5 to the continued success of its larger sibling, the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), which dominates the Malaysian market and reinforces consumer confidence. As of 30 September, the Proton eMAS 7 has recorded cumulative sales of 6,655 units — 6,212 sold locally and 443 exported. With a commanding 24% market share, the eMAS 7 remains the nation’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV) for nine consecutive months.

The Proton eMAS 5 will be available in two variants, with prices estimated between RM60,000 and RM80,000. For now, only the specifications of the range-topping Premium variant have been revealed.

It’s powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 116 hp (85 kW) and 150 Nm, enabling the eMAS 5 Premium to sprint from 0-50 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Power is sourced from a 40.16 kWh CATL-sourced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering a range of up to 325 km (WLTP).

Charging is supported at up to 6.6 kW AC and 71 kW DC, with the latter allowing a 30-80% recharge in just 21 minutes. In China, the base variant of its donor car, the Geely Xingyuan, comes with a smaller 30.12 kWh battery, offering around 250 km of range, along with slightly less power.
