2025 Volvo EC40 Ultra Single Motor now open for booking in Malaysia – RM248,888, RM40k less than AWD

Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has introduced a new variant to its Volvo EC40 lineup, dubbed the 2025 Volvo EC40 Ultra Single Motor. It’s now open for bookings in Malaysia, priced at RM248,888 on-the-road, without insurance, which makes it RM40,000 cheaper than the Twin Motor guise of the EC40.

Powering the new model is an electric motor on the rear axle pushing 238 hp and 420 Nm to the rear wheels, resulting in a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.3 seconds. This is around 2.5 seconds slower than the 408 hp dual-motor variant.

Equipped with a 70 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery pack, the single motor EC40 has a range of 488 km (WLTP). This is less than the 554 km (WLTP) managed by the dual-motor variant, which comes with a larger 82 kWh battery.

Both variants share the same charging specifications, supporting 11 kW AC charging and 200 kW DC fast-charging, the latter enabling a 10-80% recharge here in 26 minutes.

Volvo EC40 Twin-Motor interior

The single motor variant of the Volvo EC40 will be introduced locally in the top-range Ultra trim, which includes standard equipment such as the pixel technology headlights, 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and a hands-free powered tailgate.

Inside, the Volvo EC40 Single Motor is equipped with a portrait-oriented 9-inch central infotainment display featuring Volvo’s next-generation user interface, which debuted on the Volvo EX30, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The driver is also provided with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Other interior equipment include a Harman Kardon sound system, a wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control, and power-adjustable front seats with memory function for the driver.

For safety equipment, the Volvo EC40 single motor is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Key features include Pilot Assist, lane keep assist, and collision avoidance and mitigation. The system also comes with blind-spot monitors with steering assist, cross-traffic alert with auto brake, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Volvo EC40 single motor will be available in four exterior colours: Aurora Silver, Crystal White, Onyx Black, and Sand Dune. The latter hue is a newer addition to Volvo’s palette, having first been introduced with the debut of the Volvo EX90.

In conjunction with the debut of the single motor variant, VCM is offering a free first-year car insurance policy worth RM5,600 and a wallbox charger worth RM5,000 for a limited time.
