Gallery: 2025 Proton eMAS 7 Prime – worth getting at RM105,800?

The Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) is an increasingly common sight these days, with the main pull being its attractive starting price of RM109,800. For a C-segment fully electric SUV with that much kit, it’s really hard not to be tempted.

Being an EV, there will inevitably be those who are hesitant to make the lifestyle switch. But if you’re on the fence, Pro-Net’s “Power Pack+” package throws in a complimentary 7 kW wallbox home charger worth RM1,500, a free V2L adaptor worth RM500, as well as five-years unlimited internet data worth RM1,800.

To sweeten the pot even further, there’s the RM5,000 “Power Exchange” trade-in rebate (Pro-Net will top up this amount if you plan on trading in an older car), as well as an instant RM4,000 rebate, bringing prices down to RM105,800 for the Prime, and RM119,800 for the Premium.

With that, it is to no one’s surprise that the eMAS 7 finds itself sitting comfortably at the top of the EV sales chart, with most buyers opting for the Premium variant. The Platinum Silver (looks somewhat like Nardo Grey in the metal) model pictured here is the Prime variant, evidenced by its smaller 18-inch wheels, and the lack of front parking sensors and the huge panoramic glass roof.

It uses the smaller 49.52 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that provides a range of 345 km (WLTP cycle) on a full charge, which has proven to be fairly achievable for us. The smaller battery and lack of a panoramic roof makes the Prime weigh about 100 kg less than the Premium, which when combined with the more modest 18-inch wheels (cheaper tyres a plus point as well) make the ride feel a touch more supple.

Some people, like myself, will prefer the plusher ride quality, but the thought of giving up more range (410 km on the Premium, 60.22 kWh LFP pack) and 16-speaker Flyme sound system is too great a price to pay. That said, if you happen to have daily access to a charger and only need an EV as a spare car for short distance trips, the eMAS 7 Prime is more than enough to serve your needs.

Both the Prime and Premium variants share the same electric motor mounted up front, delivering 218 hp (160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque. The lighter Prime does the century sprint in 6.9 seconds, while the Premium gets it done in 7.1 seconds. They both cap out at 175 km/h, so performance-wise, you’re not shortchanged in the slightest when opting for the Prime.

An 11 kW onboard charger is standard, so juicing up the Prime from 30% to 80% state-of-charge (SoC) takes 4.9 hours, versus 6.1 hours for the Premium. On the fast-charging side of things, the Prime can only receive up to 80 kW (100 kW for the Premium), but both take roughly 20 minutes to go from 30-80% SoC.

So, still on the fence? Here’s our perspective: if you think you can do without the larger battery pack, 16-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats (with four-way powered front passenger seat), head-up display, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 256-colour ambient lighting system, panoramic glass roof, as well as a powered tailgate, the Prime will suffice.

Standard kit includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (this will only be available in Q4 2025 via an OTA update), as well as the full suite of advanced driver assist system that bundles features like autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert with braking support, adaptive cruise control with stop-go functionality, lane keeping assist, and traffic sign identification. Also in are six airbags and 360-degree surround-view monitor.

As for peace of mind, the eMAS 7 will come with an eight-year/160,000km warranty, covering EV components and the battery pack. According to Proton, should the battery’s state of health drop below 70% within the warranty period, a new one will be replaced for free. That’s encouraging news, considering most owners of the eMAS 7 will be first-time EV buyers.
