WTC Automotif (WTCA), via the GAC Motor Malaysia Facebook page, has announced the start of local assembly (CKD) for the GAC Emkoo in its Segambut plant. According to the post, the GAC Emkoo will be the brand’s second CKD model in the country after the GAC GS3 Emzoom, available across three locally assembled variants, whose local assembly began in October last year.
The commencement of CKD works will be followed by the official launch of the GAC Emkoo in Malaysia within Q3 2025, the company says in a press release.
First previewed in Malaysia back in early 2024, the GAC Emkoo will slot into the brand’s line-up as a C-segment SUV, measuring 4,680 mm in length, 1,901 mm wide, 1,670 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. This puts the GAC Emkoo smaller in length and height compared to the Honda CR-V, although it is slightly wider, and has a longer wheelbase.
If the size of the GAC Emkoo didn’t attract you, perhaps its head-turning exterior will be the centre of attention. Sporting a similar design aesthetic to its smaller sibling, the Emkoo’s sharp edges on its exterior evoke a certain resemblance to the Gundam fighting robots.

This is highlighted by the “Eyes of Revelation” headlights, “Illuminant” V-shaped grille, and the “Quantum Lightsabers” taillights. We sense a disturbance in opinions, but regardless of where you stand, these quirkily named parts certainly contribute to the unique aesthetic of the GAC Emkoo.
In stark contrast to its exterior, though, the cabin of the GAC Emkoo adopts a much more conventional design. The dashboard of the Emkoo features a floating style 10.1-inch display and a digital gauge cluster.
Moving towards the centre console, you’ll find unique air vents that resemble the letter “E”, perhaps a nod to the Emkoo name, a bejewelled gear shift lever, and a large wireless phone charging tray connected to the single cupholder beneath.
In terms of powertrain, the GAC Emkoo in China is offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 177 hp and 270 Nm, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 252 hp and 499 Nm, or a 2.0-litre hybrid that produces 238 hp combined.
Given that the car is now built in the same factory as the GS3 Emzoom, we expect the GAC Emkoo to also feature the same 1.5-litre turbocharged mill paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This setup is also the only option offered in the Philippines.
“We are proud to advance to the next chapter of our CKD journey with the launch of Emkoo mass production. This milestone highlights our capability to meet global quality standards while assembling vehicles locally,” said WTC Automotif CEO, Tan Keng Meng. “The Emkoo reflects our joint commitment to delivering technologically advanced and design-forward vehicles to Malaysian consumers in a timely and efficient manner.”
