2025 Bentley Bentayga Speed loses W12 power, but is still the fastest to date

Bentley has unveiled the newly updated 2025 Bentayga Speed, the flagship variant of its luxury SUV line-up. It’s now powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 instead of a W12, but Bentley says that not only is it the most powerful Bentayga ever – it’s also the first with a built-in drift mode.

Bentley’s “Speed” moniker has historically meant the highest-performance variant within a given model line-up. That’s why it has always come with the marque’s most potent powertrain, which for at least the last decade, has always been the iconic 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12.

But of course, the W12 is now long gone. In its place, the Continental GT Speed and Flying Spur Speed both decided to opt for the same 4.0L twin-turbo V8 PHEV powertrain making a whopping 782 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.

But the Bentley Bentayga Speed have gone for a different route. It’s also a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, but here, it’s elected to ditch electrification and rely solely on dinosaur juice. The uprated V8 now delivers 650 hp and 800 Nm of torque – the most this engine has ever made – letting the massive SUV reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 310 km/h.

For an even more engaging auditory experience, the Bentayga Speed can be optioned with a Titanium Akrapovic exhaust system.

Along with the most powerful V8 ever fitted to a Bentayga, Bentley has also tweaked the chassis to make it unlike any Bentayga before it. In sport mode, the suspension is said to be 15% stiffer for better steering response and handling.

Opting for the optional Carbon Ceramic Brakes unlocks the ESC Dynamic setting in Sport mode. This enables the Bentayga to generate controlled on-throttle slip angles, essentially giving the two-and-a-half-tonne SUV a drift mode.

On the outside, the Bentayga Speed features a range of exclusive styling enhancements, including Speed badging on the front doors, dark-tinted Speed-specific headlamps, and an optional black roof finish unique to this model. It also comes with exclusive 22-inch alloy wheels, with the option to upgrade to 23-inch rims.

Inside, the Bentayga Speed showcases a new Precision Diamond quilted upholstery, complemented by an exclusive Speed colour split. The digital instrument cluster features unique Speed-specific graphics, while the chrome accents throughout the cabin can be optionally finished in a dark tint.
