Video: 2025 MG S5 EV in Malaysia from RM115k – RWD sports SUV?


MG Motor Malaysia has just launched the MG S5 EV in Malaysia. With a starting price of RM115,900, this C-segment electric crossover is the brand’s most affordable EV SUV to date, and will compete against the Proton eMAS 7 and the BYD Atto 3.

The MG S5 EV features a more conservative design, with smooth curves and lines, in contrast to MG’s current lineup in Malaysia. But compared to its competitors, It stands out with signature MG design cues such as the two-piece front lip and light bar flanked with arrowed shapes. 

Standard exterior equipment include 17-inch alloy wheels, active grille system (AGS), and automatic LED headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLs).

Inside, you are greeted with a 12.8-inch infotainment display paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Look down at the centre console and you’ll see a rotary dial used for gear selection. Standard interior features include fabric seats, four-speaker sound system, six-way manually adjustable driver seat, four-way manually adjustable front passenger seat, and more. 

Apart from the standard MG S5 Com spec, priced at RM115,900, the car is also offered in two dearer specs which consist of the Com Long Range and the Lux Long range. The Com Long Range, priced at RM125,900, is upgraded with a six-way adjustable driver’s seat with manual lumbar support, leather and fabric combination seats, and a six-speaker sound system.

The Lux Long Range, priced at RM135,900, is further upgraded with a wireless charging pad, rear centre armrest, and a rear reading lamp.

The MG S5 EV is powered by a single rear-mounted motor that delivers 170 hp and 250 Nm. The Com variants are available with two battery options: a 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering up to 340 km of range (WLTP), and a larger 62 kWh LFP battery capable of up to 430 km (WLTP). The Lux variant on the other hand is only available with the larger battery. 

Both battery options support 6.6 kW AC charging. The 49 kWh battery allows for DC fast charging at up to 120 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in just 24 minutes. Meanwhile, the larger 62 kWh battery supports up to 150 kW DC fast charging, achieving the same charge range in just 26 minutes.

The MG S5 features a slew of safety features to make living with the car easy. Along with the standard 360-degree camera, other safety features include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC) with traffic jam assist (TJA), and drowsiness monitor system (DMS), just to name a few. 

The price includes a seven-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/180,000 km battery warranty, and an eight-year/160,000 km motor and control unit warranty. Buyers will also receive up to RM6,000 in rebates and a complimentary 7kW AC wallbox charger (installation not included). This offer is limited to the first 500 customers.
