GWM Malaysia has just previewed the GWM Tank 500 to take on the mighty Toyota Land Cruiser with an estimated price of under RM 350,000.
With the GWM Tank 300 making waves as an affordable luxury off-roader in the mid-size SUV market, GWM is turning up the heat with its bigger brother.
With the Tank 500, GWM aims to plough its way through the full-size SUV market share and give conventional off-roaders a run for their money. The Tank 500 is built on a ladder frame chassis for serious off-roading capabilities and sits on massive 20-inch wheels.

As it measures very similarly to a Toyota Land Cruiser, it would be near impossible to miss this massive “Chonker” wafting along our tiny Malaysian roads like a luxury yacht.

The interior of the car follows after the extravagance of the exterior. Information is displayed via a 14.6-inch infotainment display and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Features such as quilted leather seats, 12-speaker Infinity sound system, and wood veneer on the dashboard with an analogue clock come together really nicely to offer a sense of luxury that once eluded off-road SUVs.

Globally, the GWM Tank 500 comes in mild-hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. If our models are to be CBU units from Thailand, it will most likely feature the same hybrid (HEV) powertrain.
More on the hybrid powertrain, the Tank 500 is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo mated with an electric motor that puts out a combined 350 hp and 616 Nm. Power is sent via a 9-speed automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels through a part-time selectable four-wheel drive system.

GWM Malaysia says that the Tank 500 will be launching very soon. For those who can wait, you can check the GWM Tank 500 out at the 2025 Malaysia Auto Show. If you are confident you want one, you can even book yourself one by going to GWM’s Facebook post here.
