Proton donates RM250k to support Putra Heights fire victims, free inspection for Proton cars


Proton has pledged RM250,000 in support of the residents and victims of the devastating Putra Heights pipeline fire incident, which occurred on April 1st.

The national carmaker will also offer free inspections at six service centres in the area for affected Proton vehicles, and will assist owners with insurance claims, providing guidance on procedures and documentation based on the damage to their vehicles.

“The devastation caused by the fire in Putra Harmoni is deeply concerning, and we are committed to providing meaningful support to the affected community. We hope that this financial aid will provide some relief to those who are suffering,” said Proton Chief Executive Officer Li Chunrong.

The free inspections for affected Proton vehicle owners will be available at the following six Proton service centres:

Proton’s assistance comes as part of a wider effort to support the Putra Heights community that have been affected by the inferno. Chery Malaysia has announced a vehicle assistance programme providing 50 vehicles, while used car marketplace Carro has also pledged to loan “at least 30 vehicles” to affected residents.

Media reports, citing Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, revealed that the fire consumed a 500-metre radius around the ruptured pipeline location, affecting more than 235 properties. The inferno completely destroyed 87 homes and damaged another 148. Some 399 vehicles were also impacted, with 225 destroyed to direct fire damage and 174 suffering heat damage.
