It’s been seven long years since the current Lexus ES made its debut, but now the luxury car brand is finally (almost) ready to unveil the next-gen car. The eight-generation model, like its predecessor, will also be making its debut in China, at the Shanghai Auto 2025 motor show happening next week. In anticipation of the official debut, Lexus has now released a handful of teasers to whet our appetite.
Not much is revealed from the shadowy, blurry teaser photos and videos, but one thing that’s clear is that it’ll now feature a more fastback-esque “sedan” shape, with a starkly raked rear windscreen, similar to its cousin Toyota Crown.
Other exterior touches include the Lexus signature LED daytime-running light signature with a Nike-like swoosh shape, aggressive triangular bumper inserts that houses the main headlights, classy multi-spoke wheels, and a full-width tail light bar at the back.
Despite its sloped roofline, the third brake light appears to be housed at the bottom of the rear windscreen, suggesting that it’ll still be a traditional three-box style sedan.

Lexus says the next-gen ES will be a “global flagship model”, and will showcase the marque’s “advanced electrification technologies”, pushing the envelopes of its “hallmark quietness and ride comfort”. That could hint at the availability of a plug-in hybrid powertrain (judging by the charging port flap on the front fender), or perhaps even a fully electric option.
The whole “flagship model” deal has us wondering, though, where the Lexus LS stands in the marque’s line-up. That larger sedan model is traditionally the marque’s flagship, although poor sales has forced it to be discontinued in certain markets globally. It’s also even older than the ES, having been around since early 2017, so there could be a possibility that the all-new next-gen Lexus ES will indirectly replace it. We’ll have to wait and see.
